Joan Kilgore Murray

Joanne Kilgore Murray was born February 28, 1937 in Duncan, South Carolina. Her parents were the late Robert Martin and Bessie Mae Kilgore. She attended the Rock Hill Elementary and High School in Duncan. She was baptized at the Moores Chapel Baptist Church in Duncan. Joanne married Ernest Robert Murray on May 5, 1954 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They lived in the Hazelwood area of Pittsburgh. She joined St, John The Evangelist Church. The late Reverend Charles E. Wright was the pastor. She served as the Dining Room Chairperson for many years. She was awarded a certificate for over 50 years of membership at St. John's 100th Church Anniversary celebration on September 9, 2009. Joanne was devoted to God and was a devoted member of St. John. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 150. Her favorite song was "What A Friend We Have In Jesus". Joanne began her employment at the H.J. Heinz Co. in the spring of 1963 in the Pickle Factory as a factory worker. She was later promoted to Quality Control Lab Representative. She retired in the fall of 1998 due to her illness after 34 years of service. Joanne was a fashionista. She was always in style. She was a treasured spouse, mother and a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan. Her hobby was creating crocheted designs. She was a member of the Classic 9 Club when it was active. She was preceded in death by her two sisters Doris (Rasool) Akram and Mary Alice (Howard) Cohen. God saw the road was getting rough and the hill was hard to climb. He gently closed Joanne's eyes on Wednesday, October 23, 2019. God whispered "Peace be thine." She was at the Canterbury Place in Lawrence, PA. Joanne leaves to cherish her memories her beloved husband, Ernest R. Murray; two loving daughters, Sandra L. Murray and Minister Diane L. Murray; one step-daughter, Catherine (Harry) Haywood; four grandsons; Jayle T. Murray, Kristopher A. Hollis, Lance Jr. and Dion Williams; one great granddaughter, Tyrae M. Murray; ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren on the Williams' side of the family; one sister, Janie Ruth Moore of South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Louise (Howard) Murray, two godchildren; Willie Bennett, Jr. and Kenyatta Shelton Burleigh; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her St. John The Evangelist Baptist Church family.
