James “Jim” Anthony Edmond, lovingly known to his family as “Butch,” 73, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away on October 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on February 14, 1952, in Columbus, Ohio, to his mother, Ellen Purdue. James was a devoted and loving father who lived his life for his family. He is lovingly remembered by his children, J. Anthony Edmond Jr.(Heather Bailey) and Kelli Lyn Edmond(Cyrus Hanson), who were his pride and joy. He was a proud and deeply adoring grandfather to Lillian F. Dudleson and Tristan D. Edmond, who brought endless happiness to his life. He is survived by his mother, Ellen R. Edmond, and his siblings: Marie A. Ruffin, John H. Edmond, Carlene M. Howard, Mark A. Edmond, Timothy A. Edmond, Ellen M. Edmond, and David L. Jackson. He will also be deeply missed by countless nieces and nephews who affectionately called him “Uncle More Love” and many cousins who adored him. James had a heart unlike any other. He would do anything for the people he loved - his loyalty, protection, and dedication to his family knew no limits. He never missed an opportunity to cheer on his children and grandchildren, celebrating every moment of their lives with unmatched enthusiasm and pride. Anyone who knew him knew what it felt like to be loved - truly and unconditionally. His love was felt not just in his words, but in his actions. James was a lover, but he was a fighter too - and anyone who knew him will smile hearing that. He was warm, loyal, and full of heart, but he also had fire in his spirit. He was feisty, bold, and never afraid to speak his mind. If you crossed someone he loved, you’d hear about it - quickly. He stood up for what was right, protected his family fiercely, and didn’t back down from a challenge. That strong will, that Edmond sass - that was part of what made him unforgettable. He was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served from 1972 to 1974. During his military service, he was stationed in Germany, where he fulfilled his duties with dedication and discipline. He was honorably discharged and awarded the National Defense Service Medal, along with designation as an Expert in Grenade and Sharpshooter M16. He served his country with the same quiet strength, pride, and loyalty that he carried throughout his life. James was a strong believer in his Christian faith. He found the Lord in 1982 and learned to walk in faith at Clark Memorial Baptist Church, where his relationship with God grew stronger throughout his time here. His generosity and compassion reflected the love of Christ - he would give you the shirt off his back or the last penny in his pocket if you needed it. He had a passion for sports cars and could name the make and model of every one that flew by. He loved music, good conversation, and any chance to be surrounded by family. His bright, warm smile lit up every room he entered, and his presence made others feel seen, supported, and loved. Though he is no longer with us physically, his spirit, laughter, love, and legacy will live on forever through his family and everyone blessed enough to have known him.
