Vivian Robinson

When God created Vivian Greene Robinson, He imparted an extra dose of love and spirit of sacrifice. God delivered this special gift into the home of two loving parents, Ida Mae Smith Greene and Lonnie Greene, Jr. on July 22, 1931. Thus began a beautiful life and on December 14, 2014 God called his gift back home to her eternal rest. Vivian, affectionately known as "Viv" was born in Grindstone, Pennsylvania. It was a coal mining town and times were sometimes hard, but it was a good life. Serving the Lord, Jesus Christ was always a central part of her home, and at the age of 6 she became a member of the family church, Mt. Zion Church in Grindstone, PA. Vivian was educated at Redstone High School, shortly thereafter, met the love of her life, Edgar Thomas Robinson, Sr. Edgar and Vivian were married on January 31, 1948 and moved to Pittsburgh in the summer of 1948. In December 1971, Vivian and Edgar moved to Homestead, PA, where she resided for the remainder of her life. Vivian was employed at Prizant Carpet and then did house cleaning for homes in the Squirrel Hill area, but family was her central focus. Her marriage to Edgar was blessed with four children, JoAnn, Edgar Jr., Donna and Marvin. They were her joy and she committed herself to caring for and raising them. Vivian's love was not showered just on her immediate family, but she continued to give loving care to her parents in their senior years and as their health became frail. She would sacrifice her time, money, and, sometimes, even her own health, to be there for others. Since 1965 (49 years), Vivian had been a member of Second Baptist Church in Homestead, PA. She was a devoted member of the Usher Ministry for over 40 years, serving as president for several years. She was also a supporter of many other church ministries, especially the distribution center for those in need. Vivian truly loved her family and enjoyed family gatherings. Who could ever forget the wonderful dishes Vivian would prepare - macaroni and cheese, potato salad, sweet potato pie, pound cake, lemon meringue pie - and the list does on and one. Cooking was another way for her to share her love. She took great joy in attending the Robinson Family Reunions and the family gatherings during the holidays, No one was ever a stranger and everyone she met was touched by her love and generosity. Vivian's entrance into glory was not only welcomed by her Heavenly Father, but she was also welcomed by the loved ones that preceded her there; her husband, Edgar Thomas Robinson, Sr.; parents, Lonnie and Ida Mae Greenbe; brother Bishop Lonnie Green Jr.; and sister, Mildred Loretta Green Burnette. The beautiful life of Vivian Greene Robinson and her legacy of love, giving and sacrifice will live on through all of the lives she touched, and she will forever be cherished and remembered by her beloved children, JoAnn Robinson, Edgar (Geraldine) Robinson, Jr., Donna (William) Manns, Marvin Robinson; her first grandchild, Tina Miles, who was raised like a daughter; her brothers, Albert (Mary) Green, Gilbert (Carolyn) Green and James (Patricia) Green; sister-in-law Anna Catherine Smith; brother-in-law Wendell (May) Robinson, aunt Theodora Cheatham; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, too numerous to mention. j
