Alexander "Sonny" Grissom Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Alexander Grissom (Alex) was born on May 10, 1942 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was 1 of 5 children from the union of the late Betsy and Alexander Grissom. He was raised in Vicksburg and upon completion of high school enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country. Soon ater he married Joyce Grissom and that union was blessed with one daughter, Valessa, Later, Alex relocated to Pittsburgh, PA and made it his home. He was a certified welder by trade and after many years of loyal service and hard work retired from Wilhelm & Kruse. In 1986, he was united in marriage to Charlotte Grace where he not only adopted an entire family, but a whole community. Whatever name you knew him by "Unc", "Pops", "Sonny", "Veez", whatever - everybody knew and loved Alex; from the city where he resided to the Mon Valley and beyond, and Alex loved everybody along with his trucks, guitar, darts, pool, and scrapping. Alex was a longtime and faithful member of Second Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Donald P. Turner. Our Heavenly Father, who he loved so dearly, suddenly and peacefully called Alexander Grissom, Jr. home on November 29, 2014. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Valessa Grisson and brothers; Charlie and C.B. Grissom all of Vicksburg, MS. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Charlotte Grissom; children: Carla (Jay) Gilbert, Dawn (David) Whitehead, and Douglas (Tracey) Grace, sisters; Emma Williams, and Marquerite Cox; uncle Walt, Aunt Kat, and Cousin Gloria all of Wlsconsin; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews; his church family and good friends too numerous to mention.
