    Berdie Coles Bragg

    October 20, 1922 - July 25, 2021

Berdie Coles Bragg (Bert) was born on October 20, 1922 in Chatham, VA. She was the first born of seven children to the late Nellie Witcher and Jessie Coles. Her family moved to the family-oriented community of Glen Hazel. She was educated in the Homestead Public School system. She is a graduate of Homestead High in 1941. Berdie was baptized at 2nd Baptist Church, Homestead by the late Rev. J. D. Morton at the age of 12. There she sang in the Youth Choir. In later years (1949) she served at Bethany Baptist Church, Homewood, where she taught Sunday School for several years. She was also a member of the former Missionary Circle and volunteered with the Master’s Kitchen. Aunt Bert as she was affectionally called, lived a life of service and devotion to her family and friends. She worked many jobs, but after 22 years, she retired from the Lane Bryant Store located in downtown Pittsburgh. Married previously and divorced, she met the love of her life, William George Bragg, and was married on September 16, 1964. She and George shared a loving and devoted marriage for 45 years until his death on February 10, 2010. On August 25, 2021, Berdie Bragg suddenly departed this earthly life for her heavenly home. Preceding her in death were 3 sisters, Marion, Beatrice , Geneva and 3 brothers: Silas, Joseph, and Archie. She leaves to cherish her memories, a host of nieces, nephews, great and great great grand nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. She touched many people in her lifetime and was loved by many.
