William Huggins Jr.
February 23, 1936 - January 28, 2022
William “Bill” Huggins Jr. went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 28 at the age of 85. He was born on February 23, 1936 in Pittsburgh, PA where he was the youngest of three children, from the union of late William Huggins Sr. and Mable Jenkins Huggins. He was preceded in death by his brother Arthur Huggins and survived by his sister Anna Mathews. Bill grew up in the suburbs of Baldwin and would graduate with honors at Baldwin High School. In his youth, he actively attended Second Baptist Church with his family. He studied at Point Park University and later joined the U.S. Army in 1959, serving during the Vietnam War. His love for design and architecture would lead to a life-long career as an architectural engineer at U.S. Steel. In the summer of 1959, he met his life partner, Minnie Lee Blackshear. On December 10, 1960 William Huggins Jr. and Minnie united in holy matrimony and would later have four children: Cynthia Smith, Darrell K. Huggins, Carla Huggins-Boyd, and Darrin Huggins. As a man of God, Bill loved his family along with cooking, yard-work, building model vehicles and his Second Baptist family. His ultimate joy would be in the church fellowship and singing the word of God with the male choir. Bill leaves a rich legacy of cherished memories to his beloved children, Cynthia (Gregory) Smith, Darrel K. Huggins, Carla Huggins-Boyd, and Darrin (Denise) Huggins; and 6 grandchildren: Cameron, Cassidy, Christian, Trevor, Justin, and Harrison; sister Anna Matthews; niece Dr. Sheila (Rev. Stephen) Daniel, great niece Sherae Daniel, great nephews Brian Daniel and Brandon Huggins, a host of cousins, other cherished friends, and his Second Baptist Church family.
