James Regis Whitner Sr.

James Regis Whitner Sr, of Pittsburgh, PA fell asleep in death on Sunday March 22, 2020. He was 62 years old. James is survived by his wife Ann Whitner, his Seven children Regie E Whitner, James R Whitner Jr, Keith A Whitner Sr, Jaron J Whitner Sr, Jaronia L Whitner, David C Whitner, and Kimberly K Whitner. His fourteen grandchildren Keith A Whitner Jr, Jaiden Whitner, Kemirah E Whitner, Jemiyah Whitner, Aaliyah W Whitner, Carlito C Dominguez, James R Whitner III “Trey”, Na’Zyia Baker, Ayrelle Dobbins, Jaron R Whitner Jr, Kyere A Whitner, Cortez A Dominguez, Jazelle Whitner, and Marshawn Merritt. His two sisters Calisha E Robertson and Valisha M Robertson, His Aunt Leonarda Butler, and a host of cousins. James was born on July 27 1958 in Pittsburgh, Pa to Ruth Whitner. As a young child James enjoyed sports especially basketball. He attended Fifth Avenue High School where he continued to pursue his love for basketball. He was a member of the Fifth Avenue Archers 1976 State Championship Team. The Archers were the number 2 team in the Nation in 1976 and was widely considered to be the best Team in Pennsylvania’s high school basketball history, James graduated from Fifth Avenue High School in 1976. Even after high school there wasn’t a moment James was not watching basketball or spending time talking about it with friends. In addition to his passion for Basketball, James was passionate about his family and friends. He always made sure that his family were taken care of never going without what they needed. He was a very family oriented man, spending time having family dinners at least once a week with his family. Making sure to go on trips with his Children and Grandchildren to Myrtle Beach, Disney, and a favorite to Cedar Point to make continuous memories as they continue to grow. He always gave to others never expected a thing back as long as they were ok and had what they needed that’s all he wanted and he loved doing it. He is known by so many people as a giving and loving person. James passed away unexpectedly and will be remembered as a loving and caring, Husband, Father, GrandFather, Brother, Nephew, and Cousin
